I do admit I miss presearing. There is something that is just very calming and laid back about it. However the worst part is searing. Something about landing in Post-Searing Ascalon feels like you fell out of a beautiful utopia into a gutter. That area always felt like such a grind after Pre.

Pre-Searing Ascalon trumps every area I've been to so far, definitely. It's very nicely laid back, I think, because a lot of people in it aren't new players anymore and they're all there to run around together, chat, or just dance and play in the outposts. It's more like a favorite corner hang out than anything else. The towns are smaller and less crowded, and definitely less business-like.
The Pre-Searing catacombs are absolutely gorgeous. The only place in Cantha that you can say is even close would be the temple north of the monastery where you go to kill the mantids for you Necro quest, and that's still not even in its league.
Of course, I'm still only in the city on the mainland and haven't gotten out into the countryside. I have some nice screenshots of Kurzuck cathedrals from the preview event, but though they're very nice they're still missing something.
Ascalon, I think, has more of an old western civilisation feel to it. A lot of the people who like it seem to be European or American, so of course it just feels right to us. It's like the 'Good Old Days' of our own homelands.

Yes, I loved pre-searing Ascalon, there was something magical about it. It was serene, innocent, and beautiful. And I agree with everything people have said about it, you can tell someone or some people worked very hard on it and put a lot of detail and care into it.

Maguuma sucks because you can't go 5 feet without spiders and/or scarabs coming out of the woodwork at you...

Presearing is ultimate. Though I wish you could get to the Serenity Temple..its soooo close to Ranik!! Come on Anet make a bonus pre area now!!
Ch3 presents the perfect opportunity to restore Old Ascalon. With Everyone playing factions and nightfall; they do a type of modified global 'faction farming' system for players still thinking back to Prophecies.
And by faction farming, I mean FARMING!! Clearing the land of debris and monsters, finally pushing back the charr, rebuilding towns with a community donated effort, gaining points for restoration activities or large parties defeating hordes of Charr, AB style. Then donate the 'faction' points to a global 'Warline', like Luxon vs Kurzicks, except; Tyrians vs Charr! Gradually restoring Ascalon to its former glory over a few months..
"+5k to Ascalon" anyone?

I liked pre-searing a lot. It was just so darned pretty.
I have a Ranger character there right now, possibly indefinitely, to help with any new people. Like when my friends buy Guild Wars and start out, that kind of thing. Or just anyone that wants a helping hand really.

Pre-searing was probably the best area in the game for me. It made me want to play Guild Wars even more when I started out there. You could travel anywhere in Pre-Searing with much less risk of dying than post-sear. It's sad that the Charr turned Ascalon into a barren wasteland..IMO, I think that the Maguuma Jungle is just too dangerous and too much work to explore. You can't just run anywhere you want to in Post-Searing without the help of henchies.

It's too funny you made this thread. This morning, I was thinking about going on vacation in pre-sear. A nice little walk, maybe kill some stuff, but if I didn't want to, they would just pass by. I guess I'm not the only one.
Good idea regarding the level differential. If you are more than 5 levels higher, they should ignore you, or something like that.

i loved presear ascalon, especially since i thought that's how the entire game would be.. so beautiful.
pre also feel more organic and alive, with villagers travelling between the towns running their own errands. also the mobs are humanoid like charr who are not as ugly as cantha's snake creatures. I'm sorry, but when I see those snakes and the ugly kappa turtles creatures I just feel the urge to kill them.
But the most amazing part of pre I think are the colors. It seems to be late autumn, and the leaves are falling around you as the sunlight filters thru foilage, the little babbling brook in the background as you carefully stalk melandru's pet.. gwen's flute playing softly in your ear. And the music. ah the music..
please, oh please, let use return to the days of pre.
the environment in pre reminds me of dungeon siege with its amazingly lush environments, and music by the same composer.

I agree I like pre as well it is one of my best parts of the game and I to would like to see it restored in post.It has been over year now and we have all beaten the Charr it is time to see it restored. There could be a place close to LA that could start off those that want to make a new Prophecies char. and it similiar to presearing with a longer cutscene then you are taken to Lions Gate and are let in to the Arch. This is sort of like Shing Jea to the Kaineg Centre.
While you are at it make an actual town of Rin close to the Barridins Estate.

I started a new guy just for pre. it is a little enjoyable to look at the scenery but so is the monastary in factions. I would like to see a quest from LA that takes us back to Ascalon, but this time it is fixed up.

If GW had maintained the artistic splendor of Pre throughout the whole game, instead of just in spots like North Kryta, and had then continued the same artistic genius in Factions, they would now own the online market. GW, like most companies, ends up shooting themselves in the foot with "value engineering."
I bought extra slots and started a Necro. The Necro is still in Pre-Searing. I just don't want to leave!

Presearing scenerary rocked! But some of post searing is also just as pretty. If you go north from riverside province you can explore Twin Serpent Lakes and a few other places that are imo some of the best looking places in all of the game.
